“Someday” - The Smoking Flowers

Coming to Hey Joe’s Thursday, February 28—The Smoking Flowers!

“Husband-wife duo Scott and Kim Collins, a.k.a. THE SMOKING FLOWERS from East Nashville, TN, have forged a new direction. Also founding members of Pale Blue Dot, an enthusiastic and edgy rock alt-country band, Scott and Kim have branched out on their own, carrying forward where Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris left off in their day. The Smoking Flowers have delivered beautifully produced, sometimes moody, Americana/Country songs with knockout harmonies in their debut album Sweet as Port. Less traditional than your classic country-folk duo, they triumph on a new style by bringing a punk-attitude and energy to their highly infectious songs. Kim has a fierce and dynamic voice, but with the ability to produce tenderness, displayed beautifully on the dragging ballad “Whiskey Tongue” and the Buddy-and-Julie-esque tandem “Crime To Fall”. The dark and threatening “Female Casanova”, accompanied by a howling violin, is a highpoint on this wonderfully attractive debut album.”

Crafts & Crafts is a new Keep Cleveland Boring Presents program that brings two things we love—art and beer!—together for a night of fun. We will feature creative workshops from local artists, paired with featured craft beers at Hey Joe’s. There is no cover charge for this event. For our first Crafts & Crafts night, DSU’s own Duncan Baird will be leading a reaction style drawing workshop based on alternative drawing methods utilizing basic, everyday household supplies (such as ball point pens, crayola markers, coffee, etc.) and a positive, experimental approach that will encourage everyone—classically trained or not—to embrace drawing and creating in a collaborative environment. This month’s Crafts & Crafts features three craft beers! We have Goose Island 312 Urban Wheat Ale and Third Shift Amber Lager in bottles, and Magic Hat #9 on draft.
